Challenges Faced by the Client:
Our client, a London-based rug manufacturer, encounters several challenges in managing their extensive inventory of over 10,000 SKUs. This task proves to be both time-consuming and cumbersome. Seeking a more efficient solution, they desire a system that enables them to manage inventory, pricing, and product images directly, without the need to access the website admin panel.
Furthermore, the client seeks to enhance their trade partnerships by requiring partners to register on the website to access premium features. These features include access to the vast inventory of over 10,000 products and special discounts tailored to each partner’s credibility and purchasing power. They aim to customize discount percentages based on individual partner credibility and purchasing capacity, rather than offering uniform discounts to all registered trade customers.
In addition to streamlining inventory management and trade partnerships, the client also requires seamless integration between their website and Google Sheets. Any updates or changes made on the website should be automatically reflected in the corresponding Google Sheet. Moreover, they seek automation for order processing, with stock levels automatically adjusted in the Google Sheet upon the generation of any new orders.
Solutions Provided:
Solution 1: Development of Custom Plug-in
To address the challenge of managing a vast inventory seamlessly, we proposed the implementation of a custom plug-in. This solution involves consolidating all product data into a single Google Sheet, including product prices and stock levels. By integrating this Google Sheet with the website, any modifications made within the sheet are automatically synchronized with the website, and vice versa. Additionally, we extended this integration to Dropbox, enabling effortless image updates for products. Users can simply replace images in the designated Dropbox folder, and these changes are instantly reflected on the website.
Our custom plug-in facilitates this synchronization process by periodically retrieving data from the Google Sheet and updating the inventory in WooCommerce accordingly. Furthermore, upon the generation of new orders on the website, stock levels are automatically adjusted within the Google Sheet, ensuring real-time inventory management.
Solution 2: Theme Customization
In response to the client’s requirement for enhanced trade partnership management, we implemented theme customization. When a trader registers on the trade website, they are not immediately granted access. Instead, upon form submission, a request is forwarded to the admin for approval. The admin reviews and approves trader registrations, gaining the ability to assign specific percentage discounts based on individual trader credibility, purchasing power, and other relevant factors. This customization allows for the application of unique discounts to each trader. Only after admin approval can traders access the premium features of the website, ensuring controlled access and tailored discounts for trade partners.
